Jurong Bird Park, Singapore

Since I can't go for a proper holiday this one-week break, we did the touristy thing anyways right in our own hometown. ;oD

Some kinks in our plans before we even set off. I always lecture a certain-someone, but I ended up being the tardy one, arriving 1/2 later than agreed upon.

Surprisingly wasn't too difficult getting to our destination. We arrived to find some tourist groups and a kindergarten group had also arrived. Saw a sign at the entrance regarding the police-force Family Day. Uh oh! It's going to be crowded. But surprisingly not.

1st stop was the Penguin Parade. It was too dark and I didn't have my beloved SonyT1 (it's outta commission for the week. *sob sob* How thy miss thou so!). NZ had kindly lend me his SonyW7, but it just wasn't the same!

Anyways, sorry I don't have the pics, but the penguins were so so adorable! NR & I noticed one which seemed to be flailing in the surface of the water. Wondered if it was just learning to swim! Heh.

Some other penguins simply looked so majestic. There was a family there, with the parents loudly explaining to the children every little thing. Gosh!

Next to the flamingoes (I think!) enclosure. They were not pink as many of the kindergarten kids told their teacher. But a certain orangey shade. Well as according to the teacher. I thought they just looked peachy. ;oD

We visited some of the talking birds. They sure picked up funny things. The vocabulary of one apparently included, "Cakaplah" or "Speak!" in Malay. Wonder if that came about due to the frustration of the trainer trying to get it to talk! Anotehr was able to imitate the reversing sound of a vehicle! Well, supposedly anyway, we didn't know how to make it do a demo for us.

The Wetlands had some fierce-looking birdies. NR was concerned that it would swoop down to attack me should I come too close.

We spent a longer time at The Riverine, one part trying to shelter ourselves from the hot hot sun. NZ took a lot of photos, we think. Another part was his changing to his various lenses! The other side of the pond (a non-drownable one, I tried to reassure NR hehe) had a swing set, for NR and I to chill out at while NZ took more photos.

Walking along, we found a small amphitheatre which unfortunately did not have any show til the afternoon. It had some pretty huge fishes. NR was wondering whether it form part of the diet for the birds when they do have a show there. Somehow, I don't think those fishes were easy to be preyed upon.

Next to a lotus pond. The insects were unfotunately too active for NZ to get a shot of. So after some wait, even he decided to give up.

The Waterfall Aviary had a curious sign warning visitors not to bring any "external" birds to be released. Wonder how often that had happened that it garnered such a signage!

The waterfall was pretty nice, but it sure doesn't seem like the world's tallest man-made waterfall. With rainforest mists generated and all, I thought it'd be a much cooler place. Just humid!

They were some lovely blue hummingbirds. Cunning though, making NZ stoop, adjust his camera, then fly off just before the camera snapped! But since I managed a shot on the humble W7, maybe it was just the photographer who was too slow. ;oD

After some walk up the slope, we finally got to the Lory Loft, which has tree-top walkways and a hanging bridge. Just a few metres of it, nothing to be compared with the MacRitchie TreeTop Walk, but was quite ok. We found out just how open the concept of an open-concept bathroom when we could see NR at the sink!

NZ almost got hit by a fly-past. Lucky for the almost. But unlucky considering it was the second near-miss of the day. ;oD

NR and I skipped the Window on Paradise enclosure as the smell was just too overwhelming, the colourful birds on top of the trees were such a sight!

Next to the World of Darkness to cool down. One group of the kindergarten groups also went in. Salutes to the teacher for daring to bring in the tiny tykes into such a dark-dark-easily-losable-kids-scenario.

It was kinda creepy seeing how the owl turns its head, but it's such a lovely creature!

Took some pics with the colourful macaws. Chilled out at the foyer. Ate at the Mac's which NZ absolutely missed when we walked in.
