Sarawak, East Malaysia - Day I
Clambered around trying to find miscellanous items to complete packing. Got back from work too late the night before to be able to finish packing.
K's message that she was already on her way to the airport rendered me a bit finicky but there's still some time yet before check-in and I can reach the airport under 1/2hour. Did everything i had to do, then left home at 11am.
My heart broke a bit when I was saying goodbye to Mum, Arie who was in her arms put out his hands for me to carry him and smiled his cheerful smile. Oh, gonna miss the 'lil imp.
Thankfully it didn't take too long to get a cab and traffic was pretty smooth. K was still having breakfast at Terminal 1 when I arrived, so decided to park myself at a corner and answer some work emails.
She arrived 10minutes later bearing a drink... Thank God. I was REALLY thirsty. We chatted around for a while before checking in. Roamed about some shops then went into the departure gate. Soon enough got called for boarding. Got window seats not too far back at the tail.
I usualy find airplane food ok enough keeping in mind it's airplane food... But lunch that day sucks! Yelch.
Arrival was interesting. I've been to Sarawak around 10years ago with my schoolmates. Was wondering how much things have changed or not. For one, there's a Terminal 2 now, and you'll exit the plane directly into the terminal, unlike ages ago when I think you had to take a shuttle or walk. The airport's apparently still undergoing renovation though, so things are rather messy.
Cleared customs and found our driver. Booked a tour to Bako National Park for the next day. It took around 15 minutes to get to our hotel, but he said it could take longer if traffic was bad.
Tried to check in at the hotel and found that they didn't have our reservations, which was supposed to be under K's name since she handled the travel arrangements this time around. The receptionist asked if we knew a Khairulnizam. Errr... No... SHe checked through the computer again and asked if we were sure we didn't know any Khairulnizam. Looked her in the eye and told her there definitely is not any Khairulnizam travelling with us. She told us to have a seat while she try to sort things out.
Took the time to give K an evirl glare. Things like that don't happen when I do reservations! ;)
A few minutes later, whatever it was was sorted out and we got the keys to our room. Nice view of the city from the full glass windows. Rested a while before we went out to explore the Waterfront.
Walked past a lot of interesting shophouses, but decided to hold off shopping. We finally found ourselves at the Visitors' Centre, where we finally found the city maps that we've been hunting high and low for.

Strolled by the riverside. Enjoyed the view of the setting sun, then explored a nearby shopping centre and had dinner at Sugarbun.
The waitresses somehow found us amusing, chatted for a while and even gave us a privilege card. Whereever we had been to, people had always wondered where we were from, so had decided for this trip that we'd be KL-ians. LOL. But the privilege card needed us to fill in certain particulars like our address, so in the end wrote down my JB address instead (hope I got it right).
The food was ok. I think K enjoyed hers better. But our drinks of respectively 3-layered tea and coffee sure was interesting!
Went back to the hotel. Ironed and hung clothes. Made our girly mark on the room by having all our things all over the room. :)
